And we’re backkkkk!!
Welcome back to our blog!
To us as well. We sure did miss you wonderful homesteaders!! (And all of our other fabulous readers.)
The holidays are crazy- so thanks for bearing with us! Did you enjoy our 25 days of homestead Christmas?! We crafted quite a few fun projects for us to use, gifts, cute photos, and more!
What did we all make, might you ask... let me tell you! Get ready.... We made dish soap with scrubbies, tallow, homemade vanilla, magnesium cream for aches and pains, many delicious (and some not so good) tea blends, hot cocoa from a mix curated by Megan, lots and lots of coffee, Grinch cookies, bar soaps, lemonade, the best chocolate chip cookies, Madelline's, and sooooo much sourdough!!! That's right, we were busy as ever. A few of you readers were lucky enough to get some of these items listed, the Funny Farm hopes you LOVED them!
Christmas Homesteadin’ Creations!
This blog really gives us a place to share our creativity, fun projects and more! Though it tends to be a lot to post a blog once a week... (because sometimes we have TOO many projects going on at once...) So, with that being said, we are switching it up a little bit! We won't be putting out blogs weekly; it will now be once a month! Don't worry, with that, we'll be posting a lot more on social media with fun photos of our happenings and homestead! You'll get silly stories from the homestead, the chickens, and we surely won't forget about Grandma Roxie!! It will be a little different, but we hope you still enjoy it!
And for our next act... onto our more recent happenings!
SOURDOUGH SEGMENT
We stayed busy making sourdough all month!
As I write this, Mom has made a lemon & blueberry sourdough loaf! I am SO excited for it, details will be in the next blog...
For Christmas, Mom made sourdough buns that were a HUGE hit! Everyone loves them. Small but mighty buns that were yummy, pull apart goodness--they screamed Hawaiian sweet roll, but with the sourdough flavor! The way the burst out of the pan was so satisfying! Mom has agreed that these will be a regular, especially after raving reviews from family, but is praying that she can replicate the amazingness again!!
Our yummy sourdough buns made for a delicious addition to our Christmas meal!
COFFEE, COFFEE, COFFEE
BUT not only did the buns get raving reviews at Christmas. The look on the faces of those who were blessed with a cup of Lexi coffee on Christmas Eve was priceless. Yes, a new espresso machine was gifted to us for Christmas and well our favorite Barista- Lexi was ecstatic. (Also, this is mom...so hopefully Lexi doesn't delete this segment). Now, Lexi has been making coffee for years and let me tell you her biased mom feels her skills are spectacular. BUT the look of those taking a sip of this sweet coffee nectar was stellar! I didn't think that my mom heart would beam by watching someone take a sip of a coffee made by her, but those faces were priceless! It wasn't just a sip of coffee I think they slipped into an alternate dimension momentarily- I know that I sure did. I do have to say, we are usually the iced coffee drinkers in this house, but this evening was all hot coffees and man oh man I am so thankful for mornings at home with her and her willingness to bless us with her coffee curating skills!

Chasing BUCK!
Buck, our crazy cool dog, has been causing all sorts of silly chaos! Being an Australian Shepherd is hard when there's so much snow on the ground, but honestly, that doesn't stop him from zooming all over the snow and clearing the huge snow piles! His favorite game is fetch, but sometimes the ball is just too hard for him to find in the winter... so how about a laser pointer?! He loves it! We don't even need to move it around a lot, just got to point it somewhere and watch Buck make his own fun game about it! Buck really does keep us entertained her at the homestead!
This is our bestest pup, Buck!
How's the other business??
Burn 'n Design!! That's who were talking about! A custom laser engraving and whipped tallow business started by me, Lexi, last year. I'm staying busy- crafting creations and connecting with some amazing customers. Coming out soon, along with a website, are brand packages! These sets will include some start up advertising for your own business, ranging in size and items. These will be a great start up investment for those who want to slowly get merchandise and their business name out there! Each brand package will be featured on our social media accounts too!
And I am finally adding the final touches on my website! It's so exciting. I'll finally be able to share so much more with you guys. Stay tuned! (as it might be out this evening!)
The one & only... Grandma Roxie!!
We pulled a 'Foxy Roxie' on her at our family Christmas. We never know what excitement she might bring, besides cookies...she always brings cookies! But Megan found some adorable flinging chickens and thought they would be fun at our family Christmas with Krista's family. Flinging chickens you might ask? Well, don't worry our precious ladies are all safe! They reminded us of those sticky hands with a string that you would fling at windows, and it would stick. Well, we found slingshot style chickens in that same texture. They added such a fun unexpected element to our afternoon of games. But we always had to be watching our back because we just never knew when and where the next chicken out be coming from or who had one stashed to catch you off guard--this was probably Grandma Roxie the most. After all what family event is complete without chickens of some sort!

The Homestead Apothecary
Life on the Funny Farm in January is meant to slow down and relax all while dreaming of plants and ideas for this coming garden season. No, mom has not purchased any new seeds yet, but I am sure they will be coming soon. However, as we slow down it's a great time to sit with a yummy cup of chamomile tea. It's such a great tea to enjoy before bed with a little honey and even some cream. So calming and relaxing but also providing some amazing benefits for you as well.
Megan's Creation
We have been waiting for Megan to whip out her sewing machine for a little while now. Well, we finally had a slow evening at home, and she knocked it out of the park with a floor turtle. It is the cutest little guy to keep on the floor and wipe up those small spills without having to lose another kitchen towel to the often-messy kitchen floor. Stay tuned as she is in the process of making more!
Floor turtle!!
Well, that's everything we have for you for now. Remember- blogs will be posted once a month, but you'll be seeing a LOT more fun photos on the Homestead's social media accounts! As always, a huge thank you to everyone who joins us and reads our silly stories. Obviously, we wouldn't be doing this without you amazing people. Comment below what you're excited to see next month!
