SNOWSTORM!!

This might be controversial, but we're decorating for Christmas today!!!

Honestly, we are thankful all the time, even more so when our house has pretty lights hehe! Side note: we are NOT having a huge Thanksgiving celebration at this house, so don't even worry. Check out our social media to see the finished decorating and get in the festive spirit with us! (Photos will be on the blog the following week.)

We also worked on some outside Christmas decorations for the front of our house- our version of porch pots essentially. It was so fun to include some leftover treasures from around the homestead: yarrow, sunflowers, and bee balm were those additions. These definitely made the decor unique and special to us. Hopefully, we will add some Christmas lights tonight!

Next order of business- speaking of the business at the Homestead- Burn 'n Design will be at the Holiday Inn, Detroit Lakes, between 11am and 5pm on December 6th! Come see me in person! I will have my whipped tallow balm there, as well as LOTS of fun Christmas gifts, home decor, and more. Don't worry- I will have some non-Christmas goodies there too; it will be great for everyone. Mention our Gone Homesteadin' blog at the show and receive 10% off your entire purchase! Isn't that exciting!

So, what did we do this week?

We made our way to Grand Forks for Megan's first skating competition of the season! We got to see and stay with our aunt (mom's sister, she went to Fargo with us a few weeks ago.) We tried a neat coffee shop and salad place- not at the same time though. Did some shopping, but overall, it was a quick trip. Megan received 5th place at the show- which is super good!! Her performance was amazing, and she is a natural on the ice. We've got lots of events coming eventually, so you can be ready to cheer her on!

Our next fun project, continuing from last week, is soap! Last week we made soap that has to sit and cure for 4-6 weeks, but this week we tried a different method. This week we attempted another soap recipe, but we used a different method referred to as hot process. The benefit of hot process soap is that it has a much shorter cure time as the heat used speeds up the saponification process. (That is simply, how soap comes to be.) So, instead of 4-6 weeks, it only takes 1-2 weeks to fully cure.

Mom decided to try a two-tone recipe and used blue spirulina powder, which made the soap a beautiful purple-y color. She added ylang ylang essential oil and some pretty rose petals on top.

We just can't wait to give these beauties away for Christmas gifts- they are so darn pretty. They are also a lot more rustic looking, which is super neat.

Our sourdough count last week got up to 11 total loaves. Mom is beyond excited to send these out to people for Thanksgiving! We added scrambled eggs and cheese to a loaf, and it is delicious. It's kind of crazy what you can really do with sourdough- like we've said, "It's sourdough, so you have to do things differently."

Happy Thanksgiving! The Funny Farm wishes you the best weekend! Hopefully your Black Friday and weekend shopping goes well. If you haven't seen yet, Burn 'n Design just posted their Black Friday deals that are around ALL WEEK! Shop small!

Until next week...
