Y’all, I think it’s finally Fall!
You're back? Reading our blog? Ooooooo!
We don't know entirely where this whole blog will go, so thanks for enjoying the ride as we begin! Please enjoy the chicken .5's scattered about.
Well, it's been a busy week here at the homestead. In case you're wondering, Burn 'n Design's vendor show went SO GOOD! It was extremely hot and there was no lemonade, unfortunately, but we managed. We actually planned out what our lemonade stand is going to look like for next year. I don't want to spoil anything, so you'll have to wait and see!
MEET OUR BUCK
Today we introduce to you one of our very, very special four-legged fellows here on the Homestead. His name is Buck. He is a mix between pure chaos and extreme ADHD. So yes, all around insane. He is such a good boy (most of the time) but he is definitely lacking a few cells up there in his brain.
Buck's favorite activities consist of fetch (once we can finally find a ball to throw) bowling for chickens and eating bacon. He LOVES pets, especially the ones where you can't even get in the door because he is desperate. He also really enjoys swimming, in the duck pool, and kicking the ducks out of their own pool. He will be a common occurrence within this, just you wait!
WHAT WE BAKED THIS WEEK...
Back to our sourdough stories.... No, the kitchen did not explode. We made caramel rolls! With no recipe, but also with NO corn syrup.
Mom had gotten the dough all-ready the night before. She told me that morning, "I need your help, I don't know how to make caramel rolls."
So, we took the dough, laid it out, added lots of brown sugar and cinnamon. We forgot to spread a nice layer of butter on beforehand, so we just added a few little pieces all over. Rolled it up and then realized that we needed to make caramel.
Now, we did not have a recipe for this said caramel. We didn't have corn syrup. We didn't even have good ice cream- yes, some recipes call for that. After searching what felt like every corner of the internet, we found one that simply called for heavy whipping cream and brown sugar. We just heated that up to perfection, poured it in the pan, added the sugared dough and cooked it.
Approximately 25 minutes later, we had beautiful, golden brown sourdough caramel rolls. They were wonderful! See the pictures but not the recipe... hah!
Please enjoy the photo of the cinnamon being sprinkled out, I was really proud of it.
THE ONE & ONLY (and her mixer)
Now we shall introduce to you, the one of a kind... Megan! Megan is a young baker with an attitude like no other. She loves cats, baking, and reading. Not too long ago she started baking up a storm, with that, finding a recipe for macarons. It took a lot of trial and error, but now you won't regret enjoying that small delight.
Megan recently just made a large purchase... she just got a new mixer. Woo-hoo! For a great price from a backroads mixer guy. Sketchy, but they had a cute dog. Sweet deal! Would reccommend whoever this guy is if you're looking for a new mixer! This machine is brand new and mixes a lot better than the old one. We've named her Ruby. Megan and Ruby- the power duo- make lots of delicious cookies!
The cake we had last night was wonderful, a home cooked meal with a wonderful dessert. I would definitely not recommend asking Megan how the brownies were last night.... From our garden came purple potatoes. Yes, purple. Not red, a very vibrant purple. We invited some friends over and enjoyed a meal of roast, purple mashed potatoes, salad, and bread. AND CAKE, not brownies. It was delightful. The mixed up and mashed potatoes looked very close to frosting, but once you got past that fact, they were delightful.
Before I move on, Megan has a super cool embroidery machine as well as a sewing machine that unfortunately at the moment is collecting dust. She can make such cool things with it! Leave a comment of encouragement to Megan so she will show off her super cool talents! Then next week we could show some photos to y'all of the crazy cool creations she has made, hopefully!!
SHE'S BACK!!
Before we end this, I need to paint one more beautiful picture of the one you've been waiting for... Grandma Roxie. More often than not we refer to her as 'Foxie Roxie' which fits. The 4th of July is this lady's whole personality. Everything to the colors to the firecrackers- yes, just like her attitude! One of her favorite hobbies is throwing firecrackers into the campfire, nonchalantly, so when they go off it spooks everyone.
Grandma Roxie enjoys 4th of July parties at her house. She's on a lake so it works. One year, she was all dressed up, head to toe red, white and blue, patiently waiting for the boat parade to come by. To get a closer look, she hops onto her paddleboard- still impressing everyone with her outfit. And soon enough, the waves come in a toss her into the water. No one was hurt, I promise. But she was thrilled and found her glasses haha!
Thanks for reading through our second official blog, we hope you like it! Comment your thoughts and don't forget to encourage Megan to make some super cool awesome stuff with her embroidery and sewing machine. Love you, Megan! Stay tuned for next week and we mention our garden! Aren't the chicken .5's great? It really brings out their dinosaur nature.
See you next Wednesday! Much love, the Funny Farm Homestead.
